It captures your theme for the week, the 1–3 outcomes that matter most, the meetings and commitments already on your calendar, and the small set of next actions tied to each goal. You can revisit, edit, and check things off all week — and it becomes part of your history for future reviews.

What are the steps of the weekly ritual?

Four steps: 1) Review — look at last week's Brief, what moved, and what slipped. 2) Brain Dump — get every open loop, idea, and worry out of your head. 3) Align — sort the dump against your goals, foundation roles, and the calendar so reality and ambition meet. 4) Commit — pick the 1–3 outcomes that actually matter and the next actions to get there. Each step takes 2–4 minutes.

How long does a Sunday Planning session take?

Most people finish in 10–15 minutes. Your first session takes a bit longer (20–25 minutes) because you're also setting up your foundation and goals. After that, the weekly ritual gets faster as your history fills in and the app starts pre-filling context for you.

What is the foundation and why does it matter?

Your foundation is the small set of roles and values that don't change week to week — things like 'partner', 'founder', 'parent', 'healthy'. It's the lens we use during the Align step so your weekly plan isn't just a to-do list, it's a reflection of who you're trying to be. You set it once during onboarding and tune it over time.

How are goals different from to-dos?

Goals are the outcomes you're moving toward over weeks or months — 'launch v1', 'run a 10k', 'save $5k'. To-dos are the next physical actions that move a goal forward this week. Sunday Planning keeps them in separate places on purpose: goals live in Goals, weekly commitments live in your Brief, and quick captures live in Brain Dump until you sort them.

What's the difference between Brief, Brain Dump, Goals, and Pulse?

Brief is your committed plan for this week. Brain Dump is the inbox — capture anything in your head, sort it later. Goals are the longer-arc outcomes the weekly plan ladders up to. Pulse is the lightweight midweek check-in: a 60-second view of how the week is actually going so you can adjust before Sunday rolls around again.

What happens during the week after I finish my Brief?

Your Brief stays open and editable. Use Pulse for a quick midweek check-in, capture new items in Brain Dump as they come up, and tick off actions as you complete them. Nothing forces you to plan more than once — the whole point is that one focused Sunday session sets up the rest of the week.

Review compares last week's Brief to what actually happened. You'll see what you committed to, what got done, what slipped, and any patterns across recent weeks (in Insights and Rhythm). It takes ~2 minutes and is the single biggest reason the ritual compounds — you stop repeating the same broken weeks.

Yes, lightly and on purpose. AI helps with the boring parts: validating goals are specific enough, finding gaps between your goals and your week, categorizing brain dump items, and surfacing patterns over time. The decisions — what matters, what to commit to — stay yours. The ritual is the product; AI is a quiet assistant inside it.

Is Sunday Planning a to-do list or a calendar?

Neither — and that's the point. To-do lists drown you in tasks without context. Calendars only show what's already scheduled. Sunday Planning sits above both: it's the weekly thinking layer where you decide what actually matters, then your existing tools (calendar, notes, Linear, whatever) do the work of executing.
